Andy Webb — Artisan Fire Pit Maker Based in West Sussex

Andrew Webb is a designer, artist and maker with 30+ years of specialist experience, and one of the UK’s leading artisan fire pit makers. Working with steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminium, corten, cast concrete and glass, Andrew brings the same uncompromising craft to every piece he creates. As well as his contemporary artisan fire pits, Andrew makes sculpture and bespoke work including staircases, furniture and architectural metalwork.

Hailing from London, Andrew’s interest in making started from an early age, carrying through a multidisciplinary BA arts course into a career that has taken him from London’s theatre world to the West Sussex countryside.

Whilst establishing himself as a maker, Andrew set up workshops in London making theatre props for the English National Opera, amongst others. This progressed into learning metalwork while working freelance for various production companies.

Andrew soon began making metal and wood furniture for private clients and architects, progressing on to public art commissions and sculpture fabrication for established artists as well as his own practice. His work is consistently concerned with sculptural form and celebrates the inherent qualities of the material.

He is now based in West Sussex, where he prides himself on the quality of his work and on customer satisfaction.

Handcrafted Artisan Fire Pits Made in England

Today, Andrew designs and handcrafts contemporary fire pits, fire bowls, braziers and log racks under the Magma Firepits name. Each piece is individually made to order from UK-sourced steel at least 5mm thick, making them the thickest contemporary fire pits available in the UK. Every fire pit is numbered and signed, a functional sculpture built to last a lifetime in your garden or outdoor space.

Unlike cheaper imported fire pits that rust through within a season, every Magma fire pit is built to endure. The same attention to craft that went into Andrew’s theatre props and public art commissions goes into every fire pit that leaves his West Sussex workshop.

Some designs are available in corten weathering steel or stainless steel. If you have an idea of your own, a bespoke fire pit service is also available.

Bespoke Metalwork and Sculpture

As well as artisan fire pits, Andrew continues to take on bespoke commissions through Magma Sculpture, including staircases, furniture, architectural metalwork and public sculpture for domestic clients, architects and developers. Projects range from public artworks to site-specific commissions.

If you have an idea for a personalised or bespoke piece, get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Sustainability and the Woodland Trust

Andrew sometimes grows Oak and Sweet Chestnut saplings to give away with fire pit purchases and encourages customers to contribute to the Woodland Trust. As one has to burn wood as a fuel, Andrew believes buying a fire pit should come with a commitment to planting trees. You can contribute to the Woodland Trust directly through the Magma Firepits website.
